June 15, 2010 Secret City Festival Features Something for Everyone in 2010
WWII Re-enactment, Children’s and Teen Areas, and Arts, Crafts, and Antique Vendors
Oak Ridge, Tenn. –
The public is invited to discover Oak Ridge, America’s World War II (WWII) Secret City, June 18 – 19, during the 8th Annual Secret City Festival.  This year’s highlights include a Tribute Night concert, a concert by music legend Chubby Checker, a WWII re-enactment, a children’s and toddler’s area, a new youth area, arts & crafts vendors with a juried arts show, antique dealers, and plenty of fun, food and activities for the whole family. The festival site is open to the public, and most of the weekend’s events are free of charge, thanks to the festival’s many sponsors, including Festival Sponsors the City of Oak Ridge and B&W Y-12.

June 12, 2010 Volunteers Needed for Secret City Festival

The 8th Annual Secret City Festival is set to take place June 18 – 19 at AK Bissell Park.  More than 20,000 people are expected to attend this year’s event, and festival committee members are seeking volunteers to help man different booths and activities during the two-day event.

June 4, 2010 Variety of Entertainment Scheduled for Festival’s Pavilion Stage

May 25, 2010 Award-Winning World War II Reenactment Returns to Festival - Living History Exhibits Open Friday and Saturday

Sixty-seven years after the 101st Airborne Division jumped into France in the black of night to lead the way for the Allied invasion of France, the “Five Oh First Group,” a Knoxville-based World War II (WWII) Airborne Reenactment group, prepares for the invasion of Europe all over again. On Saturday, June 19, nearly 200 World War II reenactors and more than a dozen period vehicles will take the field at AK Bissell Park as part of the 8th Annual Secret City Festival to recreate the Allied invasion of Normandy.

May 21, 2010 TN Creates Returns to Secret City Festival

A returning favorite to the 8th Annual Secret City Festival is a juried arts show, presented by the Oak Ridge Arts Center, which will take place in the Oak Ridge Civic Center gymnasium, June 18 and 19.  This event, called TN Creates, will feature 30 of the area’s finest artisans including woodworkers, potters, soap makers, gourd artists, jewelers, printmakers, candle makers, and much more.  Most of these artists are members of the Foothills Craft Guild and/or the Oak Ridge Art Center.

May 14, 2010 Reducing Waste is Even Better Than Recycling
Oak Ridge, Tenn. –The Oak Ridge Secret City Festival has invited the Keep Anderson County Beautiful (KACB) organization to join them as waste/recycling coordinators during the festival, which will take place June 18 – 19 at AK Bissell Park.  KACB volunteers will monitor recycle centers set up throughout the festival grounds to help festival attendees and vendors properly sort their recyclables and waste into the correct containers.  It is the hope of the festival organizers to minimize the amount of waste generated and to eventually get the festival listed as “waste free.”

Oak Ridge, Tenn. –With the 8th Annual Secret City Festival less than two months away, enthusiasm for this year’s event is growing.  Tickets go on sale May 3 at an early bird rate of $12.  After June 12, prices will only go up to $15.  However, a deeper discount will be available if you are a Recycle Bank member, as festival coordinators are trying to promote the festival’s third year of “Going Green.”

Secret City Festival Wins Multiple Regional Awards
Southeast Festivals & Events Association Honors the Secret City Festival

Oak Ridge, Tenn. – The Secret City Festival was honored with multiple awards during the 7th Annual Southeast Festivals and Events Conference, held last month in Macon, Georgia. During the awards program, top festivals and events throughout the southeast were recognized for their outstanding contributions to the festivals and events industry by receiving the prestigious Kaleidoscope Award.  The Secret City Festival received three awards in all – the Gold Award for Best “Green Gig;” the Gold Award for Best Event Within an Event for the USO Style Variety Show; and the Bronze Award for Best Sponsor, Energy Solutions.

Secret City Festival Announces Friday Night Entertainment
Tribute night to feature headliner Daryl Stuermer – Genesis Rewired

Oak Ridge, Tenn. –The Secret City Festival will host a special “Tribute Night” on Friday, June 18, 2010.  The headliner will be Daryl Stuermer-Genesis Rewired, a new band featuring Daryl Steurmer, lead guitarist and touring member of the super-group Genesis since 1978.

Secret City Festival Announces Headliner for 2010
Chubby Checker to “Twist It Up” in Oak Ridge

Oak Ridge, Tenn. – Secret City Festival headline entertainment was announced at the Oak Ridge City Council meeting on Monday by Mayor Pro Tem Jane Miller.
Taking the stage on Saturday, June 19 will be the inventor of, singer of, and king of “The Twist,” Chubby Checker. Checker will perform many of his hits, including “Pony Time,” “Let’s Twist Again,” “The Limbo Rock,” and, of course, “The Twist,” which spent nine months total on the U.S. best seller charts.

Oak Ridge, Tenn. –The International Festival & Events Association (IFEA) held their annual conference and ceremony this past September in Indianapolis, Indiana.  The Secret City Festival was honored with a silver and bronze award at the event.
